Every Good Act is an Expression of Love

I feel humbled several times a day.

Today, as I ran through Horfield Common, listening to Malala Yousafzai talk to Oprah (on SuperSoul Conversations podcast), I was brought to tears.

Malala ignites in me a magnificent sense of awe and wonder at the strength, courage and potential that lies within us as humans. The power of intention. The majesty and the ministry of love.

Every good act on the planet is an expression of love. To be of service to others, and therefore to the world, is to make love manifest.

Malala’s path is to bring education to every girl. Mine feels twofold… to inspire fellow practitioners towards effortless excellence and to ease everyone towards wellness.

Back in Business 2017 – Get Your Sessions Booked

After a solid spell of kneehab, rest and recuperation, I’m delighted to be returning to work in January 2017.

Initially I will be available for massage sessions and hypnotherapy treatment on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10th Jan, at The Healing Rooms, Gloucester Road. Please get in touch if you would like to book in.

Sessions will be in limited supply while I build my stamina again, so I will be operating an active cancellation list – perfect if you are unable to get booked in, but available at short notice if a slot becomes free. Latest News – Knee Surgery Sept 2016!

Following a recent knee injury I’m having an operation* on 21st September. As a result I will be out of action for a good few weeks while I recover and get nicely mobile again. I will keep you updated as things progress and let you know when I can start taking bookings again.

World Peace from a Treatment Room?

When my brother said he’d like world peace for Christmas, I instantly replied, “I’m working on it… one treatment at a time.” I was only half-joking! You’d be surprised how much peaceful positive feeling can be generated by good massage. And you might also be surprised how much hypnotherapy can help change old patterns of anger, rage and frustration.

Anger is one of the three default emotional states we naturally go into when we encounter stress. When we encounter stress, we naturally either feel anxious, angry or depressed, or some combination of all three. But how often we go into these states, and how long we stay there, is more under our control than you might imagine.

Taking the time to deeply relax on the massage / hypnotherapy couch enables us to switch from our sympathetic nervous system’s stress response of “fight, flight or freeze” into our parasympathetic nervous system’s relaxation response “rest, digest and heal” . This naturally takes us out of the emotional states of anxiety, anger and depression and into a more peaceful positive state of mind.

From this more positive state of mind, anything is possible… even World Peace!

What can you learn in a weekend?

The weekend of 31st October – 1st November is approaching and I’m excited about it because I’ll be meeting a new Teaching at Bristol College of Masage and bodyworkgroup of people. People from all kinds of backgrounds, with all manner of idiosyncracies, points of view and passions. But these people will have at least one thing in common – they all want to learn about massage.

We’ll spend two days exploring touch and exploring the responses. We’ll spend time massaging ourselves – self massage is a great skill in itself – and we’ll spend time massaging each other. Along the way we’ll discuss what massage is all about, look at things that support us when we’re massaging, such as moving well, minimising effort, avoiding strain, being mindful.

We’ll look at massage in a chair or on the floor, as well as using massage couches. And we’ll learn about being safe, being creative, and being effective. We’re sure to have a laugh or three along the way. Oh, and there will be biscuits! Definitely biscuits.

I’m looking forward to feeling satisfied and inspired on Sunday evening. Satisfied and inspired by the way this new group of people interacted, shared and respected each other. The way they created a safe space for exploration, learning and building their confidence. When the groups leaves feeling excited about massaging their friends, family, and partners I’ll know my work is done!

As many of you know, I run regular monthly supervision groups for massage practitioners. It’s a safe space to share, ask, practice and celebrate. Essential professional support and development for the motivated therapist.

The groups are based either in Clifton or on Gloucester Road, and the dates and times are thus:

Group 1 Monday morning, Clifton:
Sept 14, Oct 12, Nov 16, Dec 14.

Group 2 Friday morning, Gloucester Road:
Sept 18, Oct 16, Nov 20, Dec 18.

Group 3 Friday afternoon, Clifton:
Sept 11, Oct 30, Nov 20, Dec 18.

£25 per session, with a 10% discount available for paying for all 4 upfront.

Effortless Massage Workshop – thank you everyone!

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who attended my first ever Effortless Massage workshop on Saturday. It was so lovely to share my approach with other professionals and explore and enjoy ways of working more effectively with less strain; creating more presence and engagement  and needing less  busyness.

Integrating qi gong worked, as I hoped it would, to highlight the essence of doing  more with less; of creating ease and efficiency through relaxing and letting go of outcomes and expectations.

I have Dario Gerchi to thank for my love of qi gong. I think I’ve been attending his classes for longer than I’ve been massaging. You can find out more about his work by following this link to his qi gong website.

I’m getting a chance to revisit the workshop in Devon on May 20th, when I’ll be visiting the MTI South West Regional Group. If you’re a member of MTI and you’ll be in the South West on May 20th, please come and join us! It’ll be more fun if you’re there.

March 17th – Effortless Massage

Saturday March 17th I’ll be taking it easy with a group of fellow massage practitioners as we explore how effortless massage can be.

My one day workshop will explore themes of economy, efficacy and effortlessness, through a variety of exercises and activities, including plenty of hands-on massage.   We’ll explore how much more less can be and how to maximise self-care simply by paying really good attention to yourself.

We’ll be stepping back a bit and allowing the magic to happen… trusting in the body’s innate drive for health and wellbeing, and facilitating its expression through effective touch.

I’ll be drawing on my ten years massage experience, my ongoing qi gong practice, and my explorations and pennies dropping whilst running and swimming.

And I’ll be sharing my ceaseless desire to do as little as possible, but to do it well!
