How Important Is It to Become Happier?
Obviously being happier feels good and improves your experience of yourself and your circumstances, but there are other benefits too. These include:
- feeling more relaxed around people and more at ease with yourself
- making others happier. Happiness is infectious!
- better relationships
- noticing a greater focus on priorities and getting things done
- being more creative
- enjoying better health and vitality
How Can You Be Happier?
So, what can you do, think or learn that will make you happier? There is no shortage of advice. Amazon offers over forty thousand books on “happiness”. There are products and services promising contentment or delight everywhere you look.
You probably already know there’s no ‘one size fits all’ magic formula, but there are things that will make a significant and tangible difference. Are you willing to combine your clear desire to be happier, with a focus on the things that make the most difference, and develop a way of putting them into practice?
What Information & Skills Will You Learn?
We’ll explore how you define your happiness, and the differences you will experience as a result of feeling happier. The material on the course can then be tailored to take account of your needs as well as those of the group. It is likely that we will include:
- how the mind works
- developing a solution-focused mindset to happiness
- the influence of personality – yours and others’
- the impact of strong relationships
- the use of key personal strengths and abilities
- development of mindful awareness
- activities and thoughts that make you happier
Each class will start with highlighting progress and insights gained over the week. Then we’ll explore particular concepts and skills, and engage in exercises to improve understanding. We’ll end with a group hypnosis session to consolidate your learning and motivate you for the week ahead.
During the week you’ll then have chance to put the concepts and techniques into practice.
How Does Hypnosis Help?
“Research shows that there is more evidence for Hypnotherapy than any other Complementary Therapy…, by using hypnosis people can perform prodigious feats of will power and self healing.” The Health Education Authority
Logically you may well know the things that would help improve your happiness, just as someone who wants to reduce weight may know they’d benefit from taking up dancing again and cutting down on biscuits.
The issue is that automatic patterns of thought, behaviour and emotion are not coming from the same part of your mind as logic and rationality.
Naturally, a clear and conscious intent to be happier is fundamental, but so are the emotional and subconscious underpinnings. Hypnosis provides the natural state of trance to allow you to gain the insights and understandings necessary at a subconscious level to do what you want to do.
The process of hypnosis feels really good and, by providing relaxation, makes you feel happier in itself. Each week we will use hypnosis to consolidate new learnings, give you opportunity to reassess unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour, and focus on how you want to be. These sessions will be reinforced by CDs for you to listen to at home.
Using the Tools and Techniques That Work
The development of a sustainable increase in happiness and wellbeing has to take account of the multiple ways in which we experience life; through thoughts, emotions, relationships, creativity, productiveness and so on.
In clinical practice, it is well known that certain fields of therapy are more effective than others in addressing these areas of experience and producing the desired results. The course therefore draws upon a number of fields to promote change, including:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Positive Psychology
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
Benefits of the Group Environment
Attending regular classes over eight weeks provides a dedicated, structured period of time to develop the skills and understanding you need to be happier. In comparison with one-to-one development it also enables us to cover twice as much ground at less than half the cost. There are a number of additional advantages of getting happier as a group. These include:
- enjoying the support from like-minded people
- learning from others’ development
- receiving inspiration and encouragement for your own efforts
- exposure to a wider range of viewpoints to learn from
- having more fun!
